Ehrhardt Legacy Gift - Update of Matching Gift Challenge

“We strongly believe in the mission of the Senior Charity Care Foundation (SCCF) to improve the quality of life for our elders in need. The seniors served by SCCF are impoverished and do not have the ability to pay for basic healthcare costs not covered by Medicaid or Medicare (such as dental care, hearing aids and prescription eyeglasses). They come to SCCF as a last resort and all too frequently have waited far too long to get what they so desperately need. As a result, they are at risk for full-mouth extractions, falls, depression, loss of self-esteem, pneumonia, diabetes complications, heart disease and death. To us, this is simply unacceptable and we feel grateful to be able to do something about it.”

~Beth and Dan Ehrhardt

In order to ensure continuity, Beth and Dan Ehrhardt have contributed a legacy gift of $50,000 to provide ongoing support to the Senior Charity Care Foundation (SCCF).

Beth said, “As a recent graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, I know that many of my entrepreneurial colleagues have made personal investments in their business to start them and keep them going. It felt like the natural evolution for us to support SCCF in this way too.”

The Goldman Sachs classes that Beth engaged in last year focused on creating a growth plan for SCCF for the next three to five years. This plan includes expansion to cover all of Utah, and expansion into two additional states while adding vision and audiology services to the mobile clinic service offerings. SCCF is in the beginning stage of obtaining a Medicaid and Medicare contract to help make this growth plan a reality.

Dan said, “We are all called to help those who are less fortunate than us, especially widows and orphans. I woke up in the middle of the night with a strong urging that now was the time for us to make a significant gift to SCCF. People, who know us well, know that we find our passion in serving the seniors, and SCCF is a unique and exceptional organization devoted to meeting the essential needs of seniors who are not a faceless, anonymous group.  They are our grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, individuals who have spent busy, thrifty and rewarding lives looking after their loved ones. Now, in turn, they need a helping hand to ensure their final chapters are ones of improved health, fulfillment and engagement in their communities.”

Because of the needs of this particularly vulnerable segment of our community, and because Beth and Dan Ehrhardt want to see SCCF sustain its services well into the future, their generous contribution is a matching challenge grant.  The purpose of this matching challenge grant is to compel others who are compassionate toward the needs of indigent seniors, to make their own personal contribution.  This means that for every dollar donated from now through the end of the year, equals $2 for SCCF.

Thanks to support through the Hope Benefit and year-end donors, we completed the Ehrhardt Legacy Matching Challenge.

Other Ways to Give: Donor Advised Funds

What is Donor Advised Funds?

Donor Advised Funds (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes. If you have a DAF Direct enables you to recommend grants to the Senior Charity Care Foundation, directly from your DAF (as long as your DAF's sponsoring organization is participating).

How does it work?

1. Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.

2. Advice the investment allocation of the donated assets (any investment growth is tax free).

Recommend grants to the charities you support, with the option of being recognized or remaining anonymous.
